The transition from primary to high school is a time of excitement which also brings up many issues and questions for children. This transition was at the core of a lively and creative project working with the feeder primaries and Renfrew High School.
Moving On Up aimed to support children to articulate their needs in relation to transition; increase the understanding of children’s rights and children’s voice for children and staff; facilitate shared dialogues between teachers and pupils around transition, and provide a supportive environment for children to nurture mutual support and confidence around transition.
After whole-class drawing and discussion workshops designed to help children to voice their hopes and worries for their transition to high school, the project culminated in a creative arts week which saw a group of P7 children working alongside S1 children from Renfrew High to distil the thoughts gathered from all participants, onto a mural which they can display with pride in their new school.
