EcoCity
The children’s EcoCity project is a vehicle to engage children in the redesign and regeneration of their community. Workshops in schools are followed by an intensive one week ‘build’ where children (re)create their community. A team of artists, architects, urban planners, teachers and other professionals with an interest in community engagement and sustainability support the children. The first EcoCity project took place in 1992 and was the birth of the Children’s Parliament. Many have been delivered since.

EcoCity Dunfermline – November 2010
Supported by a team of architects, engineers, urban designers, artists and teachers, 43 children deconstructed their city and rebuilt their vision of Dunfermline as an ecologically friendly town which meets the needs of all its citizens via a huge, scale model of the town at The Glen Pavilion, Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline over a 5-day period.
The EcoCity Dunfermline project was a key strand of the year-long ‘Imagine Dunfermline’ programme of public engagement and consultation led by the Byre Theatre, and was one of the flagship Celebrating Fife events in 2010 as part of Fife’s year of culture. It was funded with the help of Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and Royal Dunfermline.

EcoCity Dunfermline at The Festival of Politics
Sections of the EcoCity model were exhibited at the Scottish Parliament in August 2011 as part of the Festival of Politics. EcoCity Builders were on hand to tour visitors round their model, and four of them also participated in the event ‘Young Voices – how children can influence political decisions of policy and planning’.
